I have owned one of these for (over) 10 years! It works well. Cleans up (exterior) with a damp cloth. You can clean out the waffle wells by letting the batter burn crisp, then brush out with a pastry brush. If batter gets in the screw holes or cracks, just use a toothpick. It has been reliable and the waffles cook consistantly.
Some people seem confused about the light...It just goes off when the iron is hot enought to start. Is not a timing indicator. According to the instructions, when the mass of initial steam slows, they are done.
Inexpensive mix? I use Jiffy baking mix with the recipie on the box, but substitute water in place of milk. You can add flavors...almond extract, cinnamon, etc.
